This FBI veteran advocates for smartly applied artificial intelligence and machine learning tools that act as force multipliers — not force replacements — for law enforcement, whether helping making sense of unruly data or revamping agencies’ processes and business models. Mark Tanner, Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and Certified Protection Professional (CPP) is the President of HunaTek, an Alaskan Native Company. During his 23-year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation he served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Division, Deputy Chief Information Officer, and head of the Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force. In the private sector he has worked at small, medium, and large companies with a focus on business strategies, business development, and program management. Tanner has managed security tasks such as continuity of operations and information security assessments, implementations, and audits of NIST Special Publications 800-53 and 800-171 to include their maturity as it relates to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. He has performed implementations and audits of ISO certifications for 9001 (Quality Management), 20000 (IT Services Management), and 27001 (Information Security Management). He serves on the board of AFCEA Bethesda and leads its annual Law Enforcement and Public Safety (LEAPS) Technology Forum.
